Emergency EV charging in Los Angeles
Short answer: If your EV is out of charge or too low to reach a charger, ChargeAid sends a technician with a mobile Level 2 charger to wherever the car is parked, including the roadside, a parking garage or a driveway. You get the price and arrival time by text before we dispatch. Packages start at $179.
What to do right now
- Get safe first. If you’re moving, coast to the shoulder, an exit or a parking lane. Turn on your hazards. On a freeway, stay in the car with your seatbelt on unless it’s unsafe to do so.
- Note your exact location. Cross streets, the nearest exit or mile marker, or the garage name, level and space number.
- Check your car’s range. Many EVs keep a small reserve below 0% and can creep a short distance in a reduced-power mode. Use it only to reach a safe spot.
- Request a charge. Tell us your location, the car’s make and model, and roughly how far you need to go.
- Don’t let it be towed with wheels down. Most EV makers require a flatbed. Towing an EV with its drive wheels on the ground can damage the motor.
What we bring and how it works
A technician parks next to your car, connects the right adapter and charges for the package you chose. Your car’s own charging system controls the battery, exactly as it would at home. When we finish you get a text receipt with the energy delivered and miles added.
How much range you get depends on how fast your car accepts Level 2 power. Most EVs take 7 to 11.5 kW, which works out to roughly 25 to 45 miles per hour of charging.
Prices
- Get me home — $179. 30 minutes on site, about 15–20 miles. Enough to reach home or a DC fast charger.
- Top up — $299. 60 minutes on site, about 25–45 miles.
- Full day — $399. 90 minutes on site, about 40–65 miles.
After 9 PM add $50. Beyond 25 miles from our base add $2 per mile. The price we text you is the price you pay.
Mobile charge or tow?
A flatbed tow for an EV in Los Angeles commonly costs $300 to $500 or more, and the car still needs charging once it arrives. Mobile charging starts at $179, works in most parking garages a tow truck can’t enter, and your car never leaves your sight. A tow is the better call if the car has a mechanical fault, a damaged battery or warning lights other than low charge.
